Situational update from Rojava: No one will leave the field without a fight

Clashes between the SDF and the SNA took place west of the Euphrates on the night of December 4 to Thursday, December 5. Several sources speak of advances and territorial gains for the SDF. The area lies south of the Minbic region. In recent days, both Turkish media and the SNA have announced their intention to advance on Minbic. The first attempts were successfully repelled in the last few days. In addition to Minbic, the symbolic town of Kobane, which is close to the border, could also be in Turkey’s sights.

It is not only in the Euphrates region that the Turkish state attacks the Self-Administration on a daily basis. On December 4, an Arab youth, Ebdullah Elî El Ehmed, and a Kurdish youth, Enas Temam Mihemed, were killed in a drone strike in the small town of Dêrik in the east of the Self-Administration. Both were sitting in the evening sun at a car wash in the city center when the rocket hit. Today, December 5, both were buried in Derik under huge public attendance.

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 people have fled from the SNA-occupied Shehba to the Self-Administration areas further east. In the middle of winter, people have lost their homes and at least one child has already frozen to death. While the de facto war situation persists, the Self-Administration is trying its best to provide for the people. The population is called upon to show initiative and take in the people. The Kurdish Red Crescent, Heyva Sor, is collecting donations internationally.

In the Shehba region, which is now occupied and controlled by Turkish-led jihadists, around 15,000 people have been banned from fleeing to the Areas of the Self-Adminstration. There are reports that young men are being pulled out of cars on the grounds that they could be fighters. The SDF announced that an entire car convoy of over 100 vehicles was hijacked by refugees today, December 5. There is great fear that people, especially women, will be tortured and enslaved, just like under ISIS.

After days of fighting in the city of Hama, it has now fallen into the hands of the Islamist militia HTS. Shortly after the withdrawal of the Assad regime’s troops, HTS announced that it would now start the “March on Homs”, which is the last city before the Syrian capital Damascus. A spokesman for the KCK (Union of Communities of Kurdistan), Zagros Hiwa, warns of NATO’s possible plan to divide Syria into three parts. This would mean that there would be a Kurdish part, a Sunni part under the control of the HTS and an Alevi part under the control of Assad.

It is still difficult to predict what the future of Syria and large parts of the Middle East will look like. As in the self-administrated district of Sheikh Maqsood in northern Aleppo, which is holding out despite the most adverse conditions, old and young are preparing for resistance in all the towns and villages of the Self-Administration. Even though Shehba has been occupied, it is clear to everyone that no one will leave the field without a fight. The images of demonstrations and actions all over the world also reaffirm to people here that Rojava and the Self-Administration will be defended everywhere in the world.

Hanover, Germany: We Are the People Who Must Defend the Rojava Revolution

Turkey Commands – HTS Massacres

The Islamist militias of HTS and SNA have been advancing for days. They captured Aleppo in one day and are continuing to advance. Their next target appears to be the democratic self-governing areas in northern and eastern Syria. There are images of thousands of fighters from the Islamist militias advancing towards Manbij (Rojava).

People must defend themselves. That means we must defend ourselves too! When democratic self-government is attacked, it is an attack on the world revolutionary movement. It is an attack on a source of inspiration. And an attack on a revolutionary movement.

Turkey is benefiting immensely from the attacks and has already announced that the whole world knows that Aleppo is Turkish through and through. Turkey is fighting for its interests in the region and continues to be covered and supported by Germany, as it did when it agreed to a four billion Eurofighter deal three weeks ago.

Germany remains a barely visible actor in the region. Behind the scenes, however, it is increasingly gaining influence. Through arms deals and diplomatic support, Germany is protecting the attack and will benefit from the expansion of Turkey’s sphere of influence.

There are Turkish diplomatic and trade missions in every city in Germany.

We will not grant the fascists a quiet hinterland – attack Turkish fascism in Germany!

Take action – the war begins here!

Dual victory as university divests from fossil fuel and border industries

Staffordshire becomes first UK higher education institution to remove both sectors from its investment portfolio

Student campaigners have hailed a significant first after Staffordshire University committed to exclude fossil fuel companies from its investment portfolios as well as those involved with border surveillance, incarceration and forced migrant deportations.

Although the student-led network People & Planet University League has already achieved 111 wins for its Fossil Free campaign over 12 years, and five for Divest Borders four years on from its launch, Staffordshire is the first UK university which has jettisoned the interlinked industries.

“Students are unequivocal in their position that we must recognise that these systems of injustice are deeply interconnected, and that universities must lead by example”, said André Dallas, co-director of migrant justice at People & Planet.

Cardiff Metropolitan, Kent, Northumbria and Worcester universities have already committed to divest from the border industry, while Staffordshire is the first to acknowledge the interconnection between climate and migrant justice with its action.

“The exploitation of people and the planet cannot be separated”, said Dallas, “they are both symptoms of the same underlying forces privileging profit over integrity. It is the same systems of capitalism and colonialism that appropriate land, resources, and labour for profit, and that use the border industry to maintain a relationship of extraction with the Global South”.

Situational Report from Rojava

Under attack by Turkish led Jihadists

02.12.24

Since the major offensive launched by jihadist militias around the so-called “Syrian National Army” (SNA) and “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” (HTS) against the area starting last Wednesday, November 27, large parts west of the Euphrates River have now fallen into the hands of the jihadists. Resistance is still holding out in the self-administered neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo.

Since the last week, the jihadist militias have rapidly advanced towards the second largest city in Syria, Aleppo. Within a day, they managed to take control of large parts of the Aleppo region and at the same time advance further south, where they are currently trying to break the defensive lines that the Syrian regime has set up in front of the city of Hama. At the same time, sleeper cells and armed groups have emerged from cover throughout the area under Damascus’ control, attacking regime soldiers and in some cases taking entire towns in the center of the country under their control. The long-planned attack is directed against Iran’s influence in Syria on the one hand and against the Syrian regime on the other. The weakening of the regional power Iran and the Syrian regime is not something that contradicts the West’s plans for restructuring the Middle East. On the contrary, as a NATO member, the Turkish state has the role of supporting the jihadists with intelligence and preparing them for the current attacks with weapons and training. The areas from which the attacks were launched, Idlib and Afrin, which was occupied in 2018, are controlled by Turkey.

In addition to weakening the regime and Iran’s influence in the Aleppo region, the current offensive has the particular aim of isolating the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and creating a starting point for further attacks on the Revolution. On Saturday, September 30, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) managed to open a corridor between the Euphrates River and the city of Aleppo to send reinforcements to the region and thus prevent a massacre against religious minorities such as Christians and Shiites, and the Kurdish population. Due to the overwhelming number of jihadists, the corridor could only be maintained until Sunday, December 1. In the afternoon of the same day, the SNA began an advance from different directions on the Shehba region, which is located north of Aleppo. Among other equipment, US-made M113 armored vehicles were used. The People’s Councils of the Shehba region, where hundreds of thousands of refugees from the canton of Afrin, which was occupied in 2018, live, decided to evacuate in order to prevent a massacre of the population. At the moment, there are kilometer-long streams of displaced people heading to the territories of the Autonomous Administration further east, where emergency shelters are currently being set up at a rapid pace near the Tabqa Dam.

With the capture of Aleppo and the occupation of Shehba, the Turkish state is following through on the plans it has been announcing for years: to establish the borders of the “Misak-ı Millî Pact”, which was agreed in 1920 and envisions the creation of a greater Turkish empire with influence and control stretching into northern Syria and Iraq. Turkey is trying to move step by step towards this plan by continuing its attacks on the liberated areas of Southern Kurdistan and launching new attacks on the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. In this sense, it is not surprising that HTS has raised the Turkish flag on the citadel in Aleppo, that Ottoman marches are sung by the advance on the city of Tel Rifaat in Shehba, and that pictures of Erdogan and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk hang on the wall at the headquarters of the commander of this attack.

Due to the escalating situation, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria declared a general mobilization on Sunday, December 1. In a statement, it was said that all young men and women were called upon to rally around the Syrian Democratic Forces. In addition to the SDF, which also declared mobilization on Sunday, large parts of the self-administration are in a state of emergency. From youth organizations to women’s structures, to society as a whole, everyone is preparing intensively to defend the Revolution in the sense of Revolutionary People’s War. As the mothers sing while preparing food for the Revolutionary People’s War in Sheikh Maqsoud “İro cerxa şoresê fireh digerinê” , “Today the wheel of revolution turns”, the echo of this verse is heard in all the squares where demonstrations are taking place all over the world, contributing to the defense of the revolution.

Antifascists in Montreal Mobilize Against Nazi-Linked Music Festival

Montréal, November 30, 2024—Last night was the second of three nights of the Messe des Morts black metal festival, at the Théâtre Paradoxe, in Montreal’s Ville-Émard district. An anti-fascist demonstration was held to denounce the chronic complacency of the festival and many fans of the genre toward the National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM), or neo-Nazi, current that infuses this milieu, particularly the presence in this year’s program of at least four bands linked to this current by their themes, affiliations, and collaborations.

As a result of a campaign to pressure the promoter, Sepulchral Productions, and the venue’s management, Paradoxe, three of the problematic bands—Horna, Sargeist, and Chamber of Unlight, those with the clearest links to NSBM—were denied entry to Canada as a national security threat, according to the promoter’s press release. Two other bands, Conifère and Phobocosm, had withdrawn from the program in the days leading up to the festival, for “obvious” reasons in the first case and “personal” reasons in the latter.

Nonetheless, the Swedish band Marduk, whose thematic obsessions with the military exploits of the SS and Wehrmacht during the World War II, which we’ve already addressed elsewhere, not only managed to play their scheduled gigs but also filled open slots on short notice, performing on all three nights of the festival.

Outside the theater, some two hundred people answered the call and joined the demonstration organized by the Montréal Antifasciste collective, the culmination of a sustained campaign of denunciation and mobilization that lasted several weeks. The diverse and combative crowd included residents of the neighbourhood, Southwest Montréal community groups, and a number of autonomous contingents gathered behind the banners of the SITT-IWW and the local chapter of Independent Jewish Voices.

A lot of Pork on the Hoof for the Messe des Morts…

Unfortunately, from the outset, the demonstration was surrounded and paralyzed by a massive police presence: several hundred officers on foot, on bikes, in cars, and on horses, spread over two city blocks, forming a tight perimeter around the theater. Although some fifty comrades managed to temporarily thwart this force, it proved far too imposing for us to effectively and sustainably challenge. At around 5:45 p.m., the demonstration was rendered immobile on Monk Boulevard, less than a hundred metres from the theater. The police then set up a checkpoint further south, triaged people and directed ticket holders down a parallel street that allowed them to bypass the unsafe perimeter and reach the theater entrance. It’s fair to say that on this particular evening the police literally carried the fascists’ water. It’s worth noting that a number of the SPVM officers on the front line were wearing the “Thin Blue Line” patch, a recognized far-right symbol. Wearing it is discouraged, but it has not yet been prohibited by the police service.

As absurd as it may seem, the local neo-Nazi milieu’s steroid-ridden mascot turned up at around 6:00 p.m., to “troll our small gathering.” After a tense five-minute standoff, he left with his tail between his legs. Under the circumstances, a physical altercation would inevitably have triggered a brutal and disastrous police intervention. We commend our comrades for keeping their cool in the face of this flagrant provocation. An aside, in passing, to the politicians—and the media—who have hallucinations of antisemitism every time there’s a Palestinian solidarity demonstration: the real antisemites, the fucking neo-Nazis, are right in front of your face, and you choose to send your rabid dogs to protect them.

After an hour on site chanting antifascist slogans (“Siamo tutti antifascisti!” “Ville-Émard en a marre, des fachos et des bâtards!” [Ville-Émard has had its fill of fascists and bastards!]), we understood that there was nothing more to be accomplished by lingering in this suffocating trap, and the group pulled out and marched south on Monk Boulevard. The SPVM tightly flanked the procession, with the riot squad boxing us in on both sides. A hundred meters from the Monk metro station, a platoon commander, annoyed at a comrade’s legitimate protest, inexplicably decided to lead his men in a violent charge against the front row of the demonstration, swinging batons and whacking people with shields, as well as making liberal use of pepper spray. The point seemed to be to make sure everyone knew who was in charge! The demonstrators then dispersed into the metro, the riot squad with them every step of the way.

The Montréal Antifasciste collective would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to all the people and organizations who took part in the campaign of denunciation campaign and in the mobilization.

A Campaign with a Positive Balance Sheet

As we explained in our October 27th article, Montreal’s anti-fascist community had not felt it necessary to mount a denunciation campaign against the Messe des Morts in recent years, as it had done in 2016, because the programming did not present any particularly problematic groups. The 2024 event, however, was a provocation.

In early October, we contacted the administration of Théâtre Paradoxe (a social economy enterprise) to encourage them to take the necessary steps to prevent the questionable groups from performing at their venue. Unfortunately, all our diplomatic efforts came to nothing, as the theatre’s administration claimed to have no manoeuvring room as a result of a contract with the promoter of the Messe des Morts, the real culprit behind this grotesque fiasco. So we had no choice but to keep our promise to demonstrate outside of the festival.

Whatever one might say about Friday night’s events, which were entirely dominated by the SPVM, we feel we’ve achieved the campaign’s broader objectives:

  • two of the four bands targeted, those closest to the NSBM scene, were unable to play at the festival;
  • we effectively alerted the community of a problematic situation; in particular, the Théâtre Paradoxe administration, which clearly knew little about the vampire it had invited into its home;
  • We exposed the flagrant contradictions that permeate the black metal milieu, causing welcome discord between complacent aficionados and anti-racist fans of the genre;
  • Our actions had major financial consequences for the festival’s promoter, whose activities over the years have shown an unquestionable sympathy for NSBM.

At the end of the day, we can look back on a positive campaign. In the coming months, we will be maintaining communication with the Théâtre Paradoxe administration to ensure that the 2024 edition of the festival is the last to take place in this venue. We’ll also be keeping up the pressure on the festival’s promoter, who has once again demonstrated complacency toward a hateful ideology and its manifestations in the black metal genre, despite his claims of political neutrality.

Of course, we’ll also remain constantly alert to ensure that Montréal remains resolutely anti-fascist.

—the Montréal Antifasciste collective

Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria declares mobilisation

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria declared general mobilisation against the attacks of the occupying Turkish state and the mercenaries it supports.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) made a press statement in Raqqa regarding the increasingly ongoing attacks in Afrin, Shehba, Aleppo and its surroundings.

The statement read by the Co-Presidency of the Autonomous Administration included the following:

“First of all, we strongly condemn the attack on Syrian territory by the Turkish state and the mercenaries it supports, and we salute the historic resistance of our people in Aleppo and Shehba.

This aggression is a continuation of the plan that the Turkish state failed to achieve through ISIS, with its aim being to invade Syria and realise the borders of ‘Misak-ı Milli’ (The so-called ‘National Pact’ refers to a political declaration made by the leaders of the Ottoman Empire in 1920 during the First World War. The oath defined the territorial borders – including Kurdish settlement areas in present-day Iraq and Syria – and the basic principles for Turkey’s future policy. Today, Turkish nationalists often refer to the ‘National Pact’ to formulate their aspirations for Turkey’s territorial expansion). This aggression aims to occupy and divide Syria and turn it into a centre of international terrorism.

The attacks that started in Aleppo and Hama threaten not only a certain region but the whole of Syria. Therefore, we call on all the components of our peoples in North and East Syria to understand that the aim of this attack is to destroy the hopes of the Syrian peoples to live in freedom and dignity, to target the Democratic Autonomous Administration project and to try to annex new regions to Turkey’s territory.

As Arab, Kurdish, Syriac-Assyrian and Turkmen peoples, we must stand united against this aggression. We invite our young people and young women to unite around the Syrian Democratic Forces.

In this context, we declare general mobilisation and call on our people to be on alert at all times. In addition, all our institutions must be at work on full alert and each of them must be prepared for the challenges posed by this attack by working as a crisis desk.

We also appeal to the international community: stop this aggression! Otherwise, this will be a new form of ISIS terrorism that will lead to major humanitarian disasters, pose a threat to Syria and have serious regional and global consequences.”

North Wales, UK: Daniel Andreas San Diego arrested by counter-terrorist cops, wanted by the FBI in connection with two animal liberation related bombings in San Francisco in 2003.

Daniel Andreas San Diego has been wanted by the FBI in connection with two bombings which took place in San Francisco in 2003 claimed by Revolutionary Cells – Animal Liberation Brigade, simliar to the Animal Rights Militia in the UK, that ignores the Animal Liberation Front’s policy of taking all necessary precautions to avoid harm to human life. The two bombs were placed at the offices of biotechnology corporation Chiron Inc. in Emeryville, California, in August 2003. The first bomb detonated early in the morning, while the second, which was set to detonate an hour after the initial blast, was found and defused before it went off. Chiron Inc. was targetted for its links to Huntingdon Life Sciences (now Inotiv), the animal torturers and killers who were targetted by the Animal Liberation Front (A.L.F.) and campaigned against by Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC).

A month later, another bomb filled with nails went off at a nutritional products corporation, Shaklee Corporation, which makes nutritional supplements and eco-friendly shampoos and lotions – in Pleasanton, Calififornia. Nobody was killed or injured in the blast. It was targeted because its parent company, Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical, who does/did business also with HLS.

Communique of the Revolutionary Cells – Animal Liberation Brigade bomb attack on Shaklee :

“On the night of September 25th volunteers from the Revolutionary Cells attacked a subsidiary of a notorious HLS client, Yamanouchi. We left an approximately 10lb ammonium nitrate bomb strapped with nails outside of Shaklee Inc, whose CEO is both the CEO for Shaklee and Yamanouchi Consumer Inc. We gave all of the customers the chance, the choice, to withdraw their business from HLS. Now you all will have to reap what you have sown. All customers and their families are considered legitimate targets.

Hey Sean Lance, and the rest of the Chiron team, how are you sleeping? You never know when your house, your car even, might go boom. Who knows, that new car in the parking lot may be packed with explosives. Or maybe it will be a shot in the dark.

We have given all of the collaborators a chance to withdraw from their relations from HLS. We will now be doubling the size of every device we make. Today it is 10lbs, tomorrow 20….until your buildings are nothing more than rubble. It is time for this war to truely have two sides. No more will all of the killing be done by the oppressors, now the oppressed will strike back. We will be non-violent when the these people are non-violent to the animal nations.

In memory of all of those fallen before us in the war for liberation: Jill Phipps (animal activist), Barry Horne (ALF), Olaia Kastresana (ETA), Arkaitz Otazua (ETA), Angayarkanni (LTTE), Babu (LTTE), Bobby Sands (IRA), Patsy O’Hara (INLA), Carlos Guiliani (anti-globilization martyr), Lee Kyung-hae (farmer and anti-globablization victim), and many more on numerous other fronts. We won’t forget you, we won’t let your deaths be in vain.

Gora Euskadi Ta Askatasuna!
Up the Real IRA!
Long live the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine!
Viva La Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia!
Long live the Frontu Di Liberazione Naziunalista Corsu!
For the creation of Revolutionary Cells!
For Humyn, Earth & Animal Liberation!

Bringing the bomb and the bullet back into amerikan politics, Revolutionary
Cells –animal liberation brigade

—-

The revolutionary cells exists as a front group for militants across the liberationary movement spectrum. We are anarchists, communists, anti-racists, animal liberationists, earth liberationists, luddites, feminists, queer liberationists, and many more things across various other fronts. Where ever there is oppression there are those unwilling to idly stand by and let it occur, and those people make up the nucleus of the revolutionary cells.

Who are the revolutionary cells? It is an anti-gmo activist destroying a gmo crop, it is a basque youth driving a car packed with explosives destined for a spanish politician, it is a queer bashing back, a rape victim putting a bullet in the rapist, a corsican nationalist planting a bomb at a french bank, it is a cincinatti riot in response to police brutality, an animal liberationist shooting a vivisector dead on his doorstep. In short it is the spirit of resistance realized. It is moving from politics to praxis.

Anyone who takes part in the war against the oppressive heirarchies in this world can consider themselves a member of the Revolutionary Cells.

Revolutionary Cells Guidelines:

1. To take strategic direct action (be it non-violent or not) against the oppressive institutions that permeate the world.

2. Make every effort to minimize non-target casualties, be they human or non-human.

3. Respect a diversity of tactics, whether they be non-violent or not.

4. Any underground activist fighting for the liberation of the humyn, earth or animal nations may consider themselves a Revolutionary Cells volunteer.”

San Diego was later put on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2009. He was arrested at a property in a rural area next to woodland. Following his capture, San Diego appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court as the process to extradite him to the US to face charges begins.

Solidarity and complicity to Daniel Andreas San Diego who had the strength to take the eco struggle to the belly of the beast.
