APD Patrol Car Torched in Lakewood

One APD vehicle was burned overnight as an initial response to the repressive operation of February 8, which involved three house raids and the arrest of John “Jack” Mazurek, who is being held without bail.

We wish to dispel any notion that people will take this latest wave of repression lying down, or that arresting alleged arsonists will deter future arsons.

Jack is accused of participating in the arson attack of July 1, 2023, when eight APD motorcyles were burned at the current police training center that Cop City is intended to replace. The group that claimed responsibility for that action called for the movement against Cop City to develop into an urban guerrilla struggle. This is still the only sensible course of action for anyone in Atlanta who considers themselves a serious revolutionary.

In light of recent arsons of construction equipment belonging to Cop City contractor Brent Scarbrough, the police needed to make a move to reassure their contractors and funders. Let’s not panic or be discouraged; we have them on the back foot. We will answer their aggression by keeping up the pace of attacks.

The cop car we burned was part of the APD’s “take-home car” program. There are at least 40 (well… 39) cops around Atlanta with patrol cars parked right in front of their houses. The opportunity to have a shiny new take-home car is reportedly the number-one reason for police retention. It is also intended to act as a crime deterrent in the neighborhood; we think that’s funny. This particular car was in Lakewood, the same neighborhood where two of the house raids took place. Our message is simple: if our comrades cannot sleep soundly in their homes, neither can the pigs.

We are not special. Our skills are not overly technical or advanced, and our tools are simple to acquire. If you are reading this, you are capable of doing what we do. We all have something to lose; it is simply a matter of living out our beliefs or submitting to the police state. Inaction is a choice just as much as action, and we all have to live with the choices we make.

Fire for Tesla: Berlin

Two Teslas were set on fire in Rummelsburg on February 7 and two Tesla charging stations on Vulkanstraße on February 8.

We think that Tesla is an ideal target for our attacks.

Because:

> Several armies use Tesla’s Starlink satellite system in their wars. Including Israel in Gaza. Also Ukraine. Tesla’s Starlink infrastructure is an important military player and attacks on Tesla can be a sign everywhere: against every war!

> Tesla is a symbol of “green capitalism”. But it is anything but green: the lithium batteries come from toxic mines in Chile and devour other rare metals, which means misery and destruction for the mining areas. “Green capitalism” stands for colonialism and land theft!

> Tesla wants to further expand its Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin. We want to defend ourselves against this! We don’t want any more Teslas on the roads! The Gigafactory became known for its extreme exploitation conditions. In addition, the factory contaminates the groundwater and consumes huge amounts of this already scarce resource for its products.

> Tesla is militarizing our roads. Their cars are equipped with high-resolution cameras. In “guard mode”, they film everything and everyone. Make sure to make yourself unrecognizable during actions.

> Elon Musk is an arsehole!

Therefore:

Let the air out of the tyres of expensive cars? great.

Even better: let Teslas burst into flames everywhere!

A few barbecue lighters and spring can begin!

Munich (Germany): two more forestry machines go up in smoke

Munich, two more forestry machines go up in smoke

Once again, forestry machines go up in flames: on Monday morning December 18, the Munich police were once again informed of a forestry machine fire in their area of responsibility, this time in the Hofoldinger forest, south of Brunnthal . The fire involved a tree feller and a forklift. Initial estimates put the damage at several hundred thousand euros.

Police station no. 43, responsible for “politically motivated left-wing crime”, is investigating possible links with previous arsons. Just a week ago, on Monday December 12, similar forestry equipment was on fire in Perlach Forest and Forstenrieder Park, also early in the morning, and a fire also broke out overnight in a cable shaft on the Ludwigsbrücke bridge. By Friday morning, December 15, police had again recorded two forestry machines ablaze, this time in the Pullach area of Forstenrieder Park.

These events are part of a series of around 20 arson attacks against infrastructure since May. There is currently no communique or information on the suspects.

Munich (Germany): two new tree fellers burnt to the ground

Munich two new tree fellers burnt to the ground

A few days after the Sunday fire of two tree fellers, one in the Forstenrieder Park and the other in the Perlach forest, forestry operators south of Munich are not out of the woods yet, as it seems that the imps that populate these woods are not ready to hibernate.

On the night of December 14/15, in the middle of the Forstenrieder Park near Pullach, between the A95 freeway and Wolfratshauser Straße, two new forestry machines parked 30 metres apart went up in smoke. The attack took place during the night, and firefighters had only to extinguish the remains of the smoking carcasses in the early hours of the morning.

Damage is estimated at at least 500,000 euros, and the “Raute” special investigation unit of the criminal police is in charge of the case, given that “the perpetrators are probably from extremist backgrounds”, as the local press rather inelegantly put it.

Stop the Attacks on the Zapatista Community “La Resistencia”!

February 7, 2024

Jobel, Chiapas.

To the National Indigenous Congress

To the national and international Sixth

To the Networks of Resistance and Rebellions

To those of us who subscribe to the Declaration for Life

To good-hearted people

A few days ago we learned, like many of you, of the attack carried out on our comrades Zapatista support bases of the GAL La Resistencia, belonging to the Moisés y Gandhi Autonomous Region, Caracol 10 [1], by the paramilitary group Organización Regional de Cafeticultores de Ocosingo (ORCAO). We know well that this is not the first time that this criminal organization attacks our comrades and that it is a strategy that comes from above, that it is part of the integral war of attrition to try to stop the autonomy and organization of our comrades. Accumulation by dispossession is based on violence and death. But we know, as you do, that in these times of greed and power, those who organize themselves by and from autonomy and the common go for something greater: life. While up there they fight for the crumbs of the product of false democracy, called elections, below the root of a life that will shelter generations, communities and peoples is fertilized and cared for; from the destruction left by those at the top, landscapes of life are rebuilt with dignity and courage.

In the face of these attacks we want to express our indignation and dignified rage. From our collective heart we firmly say that our Zapatista comrades are not alone, that if they touch one they touch us all. We call on la Sexta and all our solidarity comrades to join this indignation and the call for an immediate cessation of the attacks on our Zapatista comrades.

Stop the war against the Zapatista peoples!

Stop the comprehensive war of attrition!

Chicago action in solidarity with Appalachians Against Pipelines

A bicycle u-lock is locked to the front doors of a Bank of America branch. It is covered in white tape with various slogans written on it: No MVP! Stop Cop city! Viva Tort! Doom 2 the Pipeline! Stop!

Bank of America branch locked in response to BOA funding: Mountain Valley Pipeline, Cop City linked to Tortuguita’s murder, and the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

The front doors of a Bank of America branch are locked together with a bicycle u-lock, with some flyers wheat-pasted to the front doors.

Chicago, Illinois — A Bank of America branch was locked and windows wheatepasted with flyers containing links to the bank’s abhorrent acts of cruelty. People are calling on BOA to drop its funding of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a 303-mile pipeline described as “a scar across Appalachia.” The MVP will supply fuel to the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. RAAP is operated by BAE systems, which supplies the Israeli government with weapons used to murder Palestinians. BOA also funds Cop City, the 85-acre militarized police training compound that the Atlanta Police Foundation is attempting to build in Atlanta, GA. Construction for Cop City desecrates and bulldozes the Weelaunee Forest, the largest urban forest in the United States, dubbed one of the lungs of Atlanta.

Flyers wheat-pasted to a Bank of America branch window reading "Block Every Path! Doom to the Pipeline! @appalachiansagainstpipelines" and "Shut Elbit Down! Free Palestine! Bank of America's Funding Israel". Each has a QR code

“While I do not live in Appalachia, as a descendant of Appalachian migrants, the destruction of mountains, communities and ecosystems in Appalachia for the purpose of supplying fuel to an ammunition plant that supplies the Israeli Occupation Forces with weapons used to kill the indigenous people of Palestine enrages and disgusts me. The struggles of ordinary people across the world are interconnected, and Bank of America funds so many causes of environmental destruction and human suffering and death.” an anonymous Midwesterner said.

This action was taken in solidarity with Appalachian’s Against Pipelines, a direct action campaign of pipeline fighters opposing MVP construction on the ground. Block every path! No pipelines through Appalachia, or anywhere! Solidarity forever! Stop Cop City and Free Palestine!

11 Truists Sabatoged in Soldiarity with fight against Mountain Valley Pipeline

On the evening of February 1st, a small group of friends sabatoged 11 Truist ATMs and branches across Atlanta, in a coordinated attack. Areas targeted included Buckhead, Midtown, Decatur, East Atlanta, and Gresham Park. It was simple enough. We covered cut up gift cards in super glue and jammed them into card slots, and we covered toothpicks in super glue and broke them off in door locks. We left stickers on the ATM screens (and over the ATM cameras) explaining our intent, and left some decorations and messages in self etching paint. Multiple locations were confirmed to be working at reduced capacity the next day.

We took this action in solidarity with those fighting the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. We admire their commitment to struggle and their furtherance of a rich history of resistance in Appalachia. We feel similarly that all “acceptable” avenues of resistance have been exhausted. Not that they shouldn’t continue to happen, but that we see direct action as our main hope in moving forward. No one is coming to save us, no matter who, how much, or the manner in which we ask. If we want to go down for anything, it should be fighting for everything that we find sacred. It should be for asserting and spreading the existence of a better world that’s already here.

Truist bank contributed 86.7 million dollars to the Mountain Valley Pipeline project and also contributes funds and has affiliations with the Atlanta Police Foundation – and thus Cop City. We chose affluent areas that have been gentrified or are beginning gentrification. The location in Gresham park lies about 3 minutes from the Cop City construction site. This is the very community the project threatens to put at risk.

We hope our message to Truist is absolutely clear: when you seek to make a profit from destroying our earth and people’s lives, expect resistance.

Canada: Sabotage on the Northvolt Site

One of Montéregie’s last natural environments is in jeopardy! The planned construction of the Northvolt battery plant in Saint-Basile-le-Grand is an ecocidal disgrace. If this project goes ahead, 1.4 square kilometers of wetlands and woodlands will be razed to the ground, serving the greenwashing strategy of our governments, and doing so with public funds.

The area is home to a diverse fauna (bats, birds, amphibians, turtles, snakes, etc.), including several species classified as “threatened” or “endangered”. There are even 142 species of birds that frequent the site! At the same time as public transport companies are undergoing a wave of budget cuts, the provincial and federal governments prefer to give $7.3 billion to the private sector to perpetuate the “car culture”. Instead of investing in more environmentally-friendly collective solutions (trains, buses, car-sharing) in the city and the regions, the governments are perpetuating our dependence on the car, hand in hand with polluting industries and the wealthy.

The Saint-Basile-le-Grand plant project is an integral part of “Projet Saint-Laurent”, an economic development strategy championed by François Legault that aims to transform the St. Lawrence Lowlands into a kind of Quebec Silicon Valley, focusing on “innovation zones”. Northvolt is therefore part of a capitalist approach to ecological transition, just like other projects such as the Littoral Est project in Quebec City, the REM or the Ray-Mont Logistiques transshipment platform that citizens in Montreal’s east end are fighting against. Under capitalism, the energy transition, i.e. the move away from hydrocarbons, means the multiplication of open-pit mines, particularly in the global South, to extract the metals used to manufacture batteries, the construction of new hydroelectric dams on First Nations lands, the establishment of mega-factories on the banks of our waterways, not to mention the ambition of many countries to increase nuclear power. Against these false solutions that threaten the ecosystems we mobilize, Northvolt is a project of capitalist capitalism.

We have taken the initiative to oppose this deforestation by inserting steel bars and nails into the trunks of trees endangered by the plant. While having minimal impact on the health of the trees, these pose a significant risk to heavy machinery.

The harvesters currently employed in the field will be severely damaged if their heads come into contact with the metal objects when cutting*.To stop Northvolt, we need to multiply our tactics and hit where it hurts: causing economic risk and uncertainty. Contrary to Minister Fitzgibbon’s claims, we didn’t come across any “three-eyed fish”, but rather were accompanied by birdsong and were able to walk the countless paths made by the animals that inhabit the woodland. We gave the forest weapons to defend itself!

Spiking is a proven method of direct action. It was used in the early 1980s by Earth First! to prevent the felling of redwoods in the US Pacific Northwest, and was popularized by the book “Ecodefense: A Field Guide to Monkeywrenching” written by Dave Foreman, one of the founders of the environmental group (the book is available online here). The method was also used against the clear-cutting of primary forests in Clayoquot, British Columbia. This mobilization culminated in the summer of 1993 in the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history, before the Fairy Creek blockades in 2021, where the method was once again used by activists. In May of this year, activists from Soulèvements de la Terre did the same to protect oak trees in the Bord forest east of Rouen in France.

Today, we are calling for a broad mobilization against the destructive Northvolt mega-plant project. We must attack this destructive machine for crushing life by targeting its weak points. Let’s sabotage the equipment, block the construction sites and harass the industry’s elected representatives. The environmental movement must redouble its efforts.

*Similarly, when cutting, if a chainsaw hits a nail, it will damage or break the chain. The chain will have to be resharpened – a waste of time – or even replaced, and the felling operation resumed at a slightly higher level to avoid hitting the nail again, in the hope of not encountering a second one. Deforestation will be all the more painful, costly and potentially dangerous.

P. S. We are in no way hostile to workers: we are against those who profit from the destruction of the living and who put profit above all else. In this sense, the working class is exploited by our economic system in the same way as the earth, animals and plants that make the land thrive. To ensure that the people hired to clear the forest are well aware of the risks involved, we’ve marked the studded trees with an aerosol-painted S sign, and added posters explaining our tactics. We hope the workers will enforce their rights and stay away from the marked trees.

January 29th – Forest Defender, Madeline, Locks Themselves to MVP Drill on Peters Mountain

Happening now! “I think being a parent has helped me be more fearless, more bold, get my priorities straight with what’s important,” stated Madeline ffitch, Appalachian mother, who locked herself to a Mountain Valley Pipeline drill on Peters Mountain this morning. She has been preventing MVP from drilling under the Appalachian Trail in the Jefferson National Forest since 6:30am. A banner at the lock down reads, “MOUNTAIN MAMAS SAY NO MVP.” Come join a rally at the gate on Pocahontas Rd to support Madeline!

“I take my cues from other mothers who make great sacrifices everyday to protect their children and families,” continued Madeline. “I’m thinking right now in particular of mothers and families in Gaza trying to protect their children while the bombs are falling, knowing that no one in power is standing up for them and their families like they should. And I also have a huge amount of respect that Appalachian families, especially Appalachian women, have been pushing for years to make sure there is clean water and clean air for their children to drink and breathe in a place that is too often seen as a sacrifice zone. I think mothers have common sense, fearlessness, and a no-nonsense sensibility to bring truth to power.”
