Hrakleio Grete, Greece: Evangelismos Squat is threatened once again ,we will not surrender, we will fight back!

EVANGGELISMOS SQUAT IS THREATENED ONCE AGAIN, WE WILL NOT SURRENDER, WE WILL FIGHT BACK

During the last few days we received information regarding an upcoming eviction of Evangelismos squat, just shortly after the evictions of the Kastelli Hill squats in Chania, in the form of a total attack against squats in Crete. The possibility of a new operation was something that was also indicated by the deal between University of Crete and National Technical University of Athens for a building survey, costing 744.000€. At this point, we have valid and specific information about this upcoming eviction as well, since counting 22 years of struggle, Evangelismos is part of the local society of Heraklion, with deep roots and networks within it, and we are in a position to know anything.

When need turns into history

On our part, we want to make it clear that we are prepared. We will wait, we will resist and we will reply at any attack we may receive. Whoever believes that this is just about a building and it’s residents, does not know the history of the city and it’s people, nor the history of movements and revolts.

Evangelismos is not just a house, it is the center of the anarchist/anti-authoritarian movement of Heraklion and, as such, was, is and will be a concrete social barricade against authority and repression, against capitalism and the state. It is the history of the people that were and are hosted here, that were arrested here, that were injured by cops here, that took part in dozens of assemblies and actions that took place here. It is the history of the demonstrations that ended up here, many times with the riot police at the doorstep. It is the 2.500 protesters in Plateia Eleutherias (Central Square) the day of the municipal elections, when the cops understood that we were that many that they could not do anything and Kalokairinos and Karamalakis (both candidates running for Heraklion mayor) were holed up surrounded in their offices afraid to come out. It is the active opposition to the stupid logic of property that wants homeless people, homeless needs and desires in front of empty homes, fortified with steel and concrete. It is the righteous disorder and the chaotic situation in the tourist-filled city center after the eviction of September.

It is twenty-two years of social struggle, a single snapshot of the never-ending class war. It is the war against fascism, the reason the neonazi party Golden Dawn never stepped foot in the city center, when the state, the deep state, mass media, the church and the capitalists supported them. It is a wall against touristification and gentrification, and the active support of the local environmental causes. It is the solidarity networks that were housed and will be housed here, and the acts of solidarity to migrants and their struggles.

It is the start of the counter-demonstrations against misanthropes, racists and homophobes, that have found us against them no matter how many times they tried to claim space in the city. It is the feminist struggles and the daily battle to stop sex-based discrimination. It is the place where rage becomes a riot when cops kill, when fascists murder, every day that we come to understand again and again that if we do not attack, we will be led to misery, depression and poverty. It is the center of organization and the fight against the attack on all fronts on society. It is the need that turns into history.

Because it is all of the above, Evangelismos Squat is neither legal, nor illegal. It is the living history of the vanguard of the social movement of the city. And this is why it is being targeted once more. As, after all, other struggles that are developing in the streets, in the universities, inside prisons and workplaces are.

For twenty two years now, all kinds of common and celebrity cops, bosses of the city, prosecutors and snitches, people like Kontakis (Dean of the University of Crete) and Kalokairinos (newly elected mayor) have tried many times to attack us. Various shooting stars of authority that will disappear as soon as they appear to be replaced by others. But we will stay here, they won’t get the squat even if they bleed.

We call the struggling local society to embrace the struggle of defending Evangelismos Squat, as it has done in the time after its eviction. At the same time we will together strengthen the local social struggles that take place in different areas, such as that against the very much intentional dissolution of public hospitals.
This text presents, beside everything else, a call to every comrade in Greece to join us in Heraklion and strengthen with whatever power they have the defense of Evangelismos Squat.

EVERYBODY KNOWS IT – EVANGELISMOS DOES NOT SURRENDER, EVANGELISMOS FIGHTS BACK

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE EVICTED KASTELLI HILL SQUATS

NOT A STEP BACK

Athens, Greece: Taking responsibility for liberation by ALF

While others exchange recipes, we wear hoods.

In the early hours of Sunday 3/3/23 we invaded the ‘game farms’ of Vassiliadis and Kavouras in Megara (city near Athens). In the first we took down the wild boar fence and in the second we opened the doors of the deer cage.

We deny the role of ‘liberator’ and consider that we have simply done our minimal duty as solidarity towards these captive beings: We have given them a chance to live.
Good luck to all of them and bad luck to those who think of them as food.
Words are nothing, actions are everything and only by them are we judged.

Until next time…

ATF Repression in Charleston, South Carolina

Federal repression has come for the Stop Cop City movement wearing the olive drab uniform of the ATF.

In Charleston, South Carolina, one person was arrested and had their home raided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explodives (ATF) on December 31. They were initially charged at the state level with second degree arson for alleged actions related to the Stop Cop City movement.

Those state level charges, however, are set to be dropped in favor of federal ones. In the time since this arrest, the ATF has been conducting a full-scale investigation of the radical scene in Charleston and the surrounding areas. A number of people have been subpoenaed and forced to give interviews [administrative note: no-one is ever forced to give an interview, regardless of circumstance you can, and should, choose silence, currently the words “I am invoking my right to remain silent, I want my lawyer” will end the interview in most cases, if the filth continue to pester you after that, repeat those words and nothing else.] , with several more reporting door knocks and contact cards left at front doors by ATF agents.

This may be a harbinger of things to come in other cities and states. So far, federal repression in Charleston looks like the ATF casting as wide a net as possible in the hopes that something will stick. This communique is being sent out as a word of warning for other cities. In Charleston, the Feds have seen an opportunity and they’re attempting to use it to tie up as many people as possible. In other cities where solidarity actions have taken places, the same thing may happen.

Know your rights if an agent knocks. Have a plan BEFORE the net of repression tightens around you and your town. If you are approached to speak by a federal agent, you can say no. If an agent leaves a phone number, have a lawyer contact the number. Don’t do so yourself.

Crimethinc has an excellent resource for when the police or the Feds knock on your door available here: https://crimethinc.com/posters/when-the-police-knock-on-your-door-your-rights-and-options

The national lawyers guild operates a federal anti repression hotline at +1 (212) 679 2811.

Know your rights. Protect yourself. Stay safe to stay dangerous. We keep us safe.

Haitian State Declares State of Emergency as Popular Rebellion Spreads

Haiti’s government declared a state of emergency and nighttime curfew late Sunday in an effort to regain control of the streets after a huge popular uprising over the weekend saw armed fighters storm the country’s two biggest prisons.

The 72-hour state of emergency took effect immediately. The government said it would set out to find the escapees from prison. “The police were ordered to use all legal means at their disposal to enforce the curfew and apprehend all offenders,” said a statement from Finance Minister Patrick Boivert, acting prime minister.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry traveled abroad last week to try to salvage international bourgeois support for bringing in a US-backed security force to pacify the country in its conflict with increasingly militant organizations countrywide.

Thousands of prisoners fled during jailbreak

The decree capped a deadly weekend that marked a new point in the corrupt, Western dominated Haitian states collapse. At least nine people had been killed since Thursday − four of them police officers − as coordinated attacks on state institutions in Port-au-Prince escalated. Targets included police stations, the country’s international airport, and the national soccer stadium.

But the siege Saturday night of the National Penitentiary came as a shock even to Haitians accustomed to living under the constant pressure due to colonial misrule. Almost all of the estimated 4,000 inmates fled in the jailbreak, leaving the usually criminally overcrowded facility empty Sunday with no prison guards in sight and plastic sandals, clothing and furniture strewn across the concrete patio. Three bodies with gunshot wounds lay at the prison entrance.

Colombian soldiers remain in Haiti prison

Among the few dozen who chose to stay in the prison are 18 former Colombian soldiers accused of working as mercenaries in the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. Amid the clashes Saturday night, several of the Colombians shared a video pleading for their lives.

“Please, please help us,” one of the men, Francisco Uribe, said in the message widely shared on social media. “They are massacring people indiscriminately inside the cells.”

Colombia’s foreign ministry called on Haiti to provide “special protection” for the men.

The violence Saturday night appeared to be widespread, with several neighborhoods reporting gunfire.

Second Port-au-Prince prison overtaken by gangs

A second Port-au-Prince prison containing about 1,400 inmates was also overrun. Gunmen also occupied the nation’s top soccer stadium in a highly symbolic display of defiance Internet service for many residents was down as Haiti’s top mobile network said a fiber-optic cable connection was slashed during the rebellion.

In the space of less than two weeks, several state institutions have been attacked in increasingly coordinated actions, while choosing once unthinkable targets like the Central Bank. As part of coordinated attacks, four police officers were killed Thursday.

The rebellion is significant since the president, who is US-backed and unelected, has been organizing an international occupation force to impose its will on the country. There has been no notable progress on social issues, economic issues, or reparations for US and French destruction of the country.

The violence must be understood in this context.

Announcement regarding the cancellation of the visit of fascist V. Stigkas to the church of St. Minas. ( Grete Heraklion, Greece)

Announcement regarding the cancellation of the visit of V. Stigkas to the church of St. Minas.

video _αγ_μην.mp4

Today, on Sunday 25/02/24, another beautiful and proud day dawned upon Heraklion. We cancelled the visit of the leader of the party “Spartans” (that is, the Golden Dawn by another name) to the metropolitan church of St. Minas in Heraklion.

Around 9 am, 70 of us antifascists gathered outside St. Minas coordinated and prepared to fight to remind, once more, to all those interested, that fascists are not going to get any space at all in our city. We remained on the spot as long as was necessary to ensure that neither Stigkas nor any other fascist scoundrel would dare show their faces. Following that, we moved to the center of the city where we scattered.

We want to make it clear to everyone that as with today, so for tomorrow we will not allow the puppet of Kasidiaris to move around undisrupted in Heraklion and we will find ourselves wherever we have to to make sure of this.

The neonazi entity that is “Spartans” is a direct continuation of that of the “Golden Dawn” and this is clear no matter how hard they try to hide to present a different image.

The president of this particular entity, V. Stigkas, has announced a visitation schedule that includes several institutions in order to demonstrate a more social profile. Specifically, he has announced he will visit services such as the tax office, the fire department and the chamber of commerce as well. Elected officials of the local governance such as the former deputy mayor of the municipality of Phestos and agriculture union advocate Nikos Papoutsakis, the deputy mayor of the sanitation department of the municipality of Phestos G. Alexakis (a golden dawn member who also participated in the violent attack against antifascists in November 2012 in Zaros) and also the mayor of Hersonissos Zacharias Doxastakis announced that they would meet with the leader of the nazi party.

All those that give political ground to the nazi excrements should be certain that they will have to answer to the antifascist movement of Heraklion.

Heraklion was, is and will continue to be a city dangerous for fascists.
