DFLP Women’s Units Prepared for Conflict

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) caiied out widespread women’s military training camps last year, 2023, to commemorate the 54th anniversary of their organziation, and to increase their military capacity.

The women learned basic and advanced military techinques. They learned how to handle light weapons, deal with explosives, and training in storming enemy sites.

Women felt they obtained rights from both the political and military side of the struggle through engaging deeper in the process of resistance.

The women’s unit of the National Resistance Brigades, since 2014, the Brigades founding, has contributed to training thousands of young women in the art of war.

In 2021 women were integral in the front line struggles and are definitely participating since the October 7th uprising.

West Papua Rebels Release Video of Kidnapped Former Jetstar Pilot

Rebels in Indonesia’s West Papua region have released a video of New Zealand pilot, Phillip Mehrtens, in which he tells his family he loves them and is being treated well by his captors.

Mehrtens, a former Jetstar pilot, was taken hostage by the West Papua National Liberation Army a year ago as a bargaining chip for its push for independence from Indonesia. The video was filmed on 22 December – prior to the army announcing last week  Mehrtens would soon be freed, but not confirming when.

“I’m OK, they are treating me well, I’m trying to stay positive,” Mehrtens said in the video message directed to his family. He added that the “Komadan” – which is Bahasa for commander – who took the video said he can try calling his family next time the commander visits him.

“I love you both lots and miss you both lots and hope to be able to talk with you soon.”

In a second video that was also released, Mehrtens said the Komadan was able to help order “a couple of things for me”, requesting two ventolin inhalers and an ebook reader with “as many English books as possible”.

“That would be very much appreciated,” he said in the video. It’s unclear who the second video was directed at.

On 7 February, a year to the day since Mehrtens was kidnapped after he landed a small commercial passenger plane at Paro airport in Nduga (epicenter of the growing Papuan insurgency), the army announced Mehrtens would be freed “to protect humanity and ensure human rights”.

In a statement announcing the release, the chief of general staff of the West Papua National Liberation Army, Terianus Satto, criticised the Indonesian and New Zealand governments for not meeting the terms for peace negotiations to begin between Indonesia and West Papua in exchange for Mehrtens’ release.

In May last year, the army threatened to shoot Mehrtens if the Indonesian government did not meet its demands to begin independence talks.

Mehrtens’ kidnapping has renewed attention on the long-running and deadly conflict that has raged in West Papua, which makes up the western half of Papua New Guinea, since Indonesia took control of the former Dutch colony in 1969.

The Free West Papua Movement, of which the West Papua National Liberation Army is the armed wing and regularly engages in skirmishes with Indonesian security forces, has continued to demand a fair vote on self-determination.

Peaceful acts of civil disobedience by Indigenous West Papuans, such as raising the banned “Morning Star” flag, are met with police and military brutality and long jail sentences.

In 2022, UN human rights experts called for urgent and unrestricted humanitarian access to the region because of serious concerns about “shocking abuses against Indigenous Papuans, including child killings, disappearances, torture and mass displacement of people”.

On the same day the army announced Mehrtens would be released, New Zealand’s minister for foreign affairs, Winston Peters, released a statement appealing for Mehrtens to be freed immediately, adding the government had been working with the Indonesian authorities to secure his release.

“Let me be absolutely clear. There can never be any justification for hostage taking,” Peters said.

Komotini, Greece: Update from the Defence Actions of the Evicted Anarchist Steki Utopia A.D.

A few hours after today’s eviction of the Anarchist Steki Utopia A.D., an open assembly was held in which a large number of people in solidarity were informed about the situation.

As a first move, a reflexive march of 60 people poured into the city centre, with a strong pulse and slogans. It should be noted that although the guards of the university were ordered to call the cops, the presence of police forces was non-existent throughout the protests.

The march ended outside the evicted hangout, where the next steps were discussed. We believe that the eviction of the hangout is a continuation of the state attack on the occupied law school and the arrest of 18 students, 12 of which turned into arrests.

The main persons responsible for the repressive operations are the rector Fotis Maris and the dean of the law school, Michalis Chrysomallis. Neither of them, however, has so far taken responsibility for organizing the above-mentioned actions.

We, for our part, on the one hand, call on the rectorate, if it has a trace of dignity, to stop shifting its responsibilities elsewhere, on the other hand, we assure that we will not choose the path of silence and we warn that nothing will be left unanswered.

Community of Santa María Ostula Denounces the Continuous Attacks by the CJNG in Their Community

We would like to inform you that the attacks by the criminal group Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) against our community continue.

On February 5th, at around 7:30 p.m., a group of hired assassins attacked the Cofradía de Ostula’s office. Fortunately, thanks to the response of our Communal Guard, no Ostula residents were injured.

The use of very high caliber weapons, such as .50 caliber rifles, was recognized. In addition, some drone flights have also been detected in this same area of the community.

We denounce these events and fear that they will continue. Likewise, we thank our Community Guard for the effort they are making to maintain the integrity of the population and security within the community.

Colombia and FARC Segunda Marquetalia Start Peace Process

This new peace negotiation adds to those already underway by the Colombian government with the National Liberation Army and with the Central General Staff.

On Friday, the Colombian government and the “Second Marquetalia,” a dissident group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), announced the beginning of peace negotiations.

“We agree on the need to carry out an orderly, agile, rigorous, and respectful peace process, which provides tranquility and certainty to Colombian society in the genuine commitment to political solution and peacebuilding,” says a joint statement signed by Otty Patiño, the Colombian High Commissioner for Peace, and Ivan Marquez, the leader of the Second Marquetalia.

The statement published today indicates that the Second Marquetalia, which was created by Ivan Marquez in August 2019 after leaving the 2016 peace agreement and taking up arms alleging breaches by the Colombian government, commits to not taking prisoners.

“The Second Marquetalia reiterates its commitment… to suspend kidnappings for economic purposes and prioritize dialogue with entrepreneurs, ranchers, merchants, and other wealthy people to seek their contribution to the progress of rural and urban communities,” the statement adds.

This new peace negotiation adds to those already underway by the Colombian government with the National Liberation Army (ELN) and with the Central General Staff (EMC), another FARC dissidence.

The announcement also comes at a time when the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is visiting Colombia to reaffirm its support for the 2016 Peace Agreement with the FARC and for the talks with the ELN and the EMC, which have yielded significant results such as bilateral ceasefires.

On Friday, UNSC representatives will visit a former Territorial Training and Reintegration Space (ETCR) in the department of Caqueta, where FARC guerrillas reintegrated.

Ivan Marquez, the leader of the Second Marquetalia, was the FARC chief negotiator for the peace talks with the government of Juan Manuel Santos in Havana, which concluded with the signing of the 2016 agreement.

He reappears to lead the new peace negotiation with the Colombian state, which also includes another dissidence called the “Pacific Guerrilla Coordinator – Border Commands.”

Brunsbüttel (Germany): holes in pipeline under construction

Brunsbüttel : holes in pipeline under construction

Update: According to an article released at the beginning of January (Spiegel, 9/1), the sabotage against this gas pipeline was more extensive than the information originally released and translated below. The pipeline under construction was perforated in eight different places (not three), spread over a distance of more than a kilometer, causing damage estimated at at least 1.6 million euros. This new 55-kilometer pipeline is intended to connect the new liquefied natural gas terminal near Brunsbüttel to the German energy grid. According to investigators, the holes drilled in the steel gas pipe were barely visible from the outside, as the plastic coating covering them had contracted again after drilling. They were discovered at the end of November during a pipeline pressure test and reported to the police by the operator, Gasunie.

Brunsbüttel (Schleswig-Holstein region) November/December 2023

Federal Prosecutor’s Office investigates possible sabotage of liquefied natural gas pipeline

The Criminal Office of the Schleswig-Holstein region is investigating a possible attempt to sabotage the new liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline between Brunsbüttel and Hetlingen in northern Germany. Holes measuring around one centimeter in diameter were discovered in at least three places along the 55-kilometer route.

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has “taken over the investigation due to the suspicion of unconstitutional sabotage (§ 88 para. 1 of the German Criminal Code) in connection with the alleged damage to the pipeline”, said the prosecutor at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe. According to a local newspaper, the company operating the liquefied natural gas (LNG) route in Schleswig-Holstein, Gasunie, had already contacted the criminal police in November to report damage to the line.

Operation of the new pipeline, dubbed “ETL 180”, was originally scheduled to begin at the end of last year – the floating LNG terminal having already arrived in Brunsbüttel in January – but has not yet started. The pipeline route runs between Brunsbüttel, in the Dithmarschen district at the mouth of the River Elbe, and Hetlingen, in the Pinneberg district south of Hamburg. The function of the pipeline is to transport liquefied natural gas from a terminal off the coast of Brunsbüttel to an injection point in the pipeline network. Construction of several LNG pipelines began in March last year.

The German federal government is placing increasing reliance on LNG – not least to replace missing gas deliveries from Russia following the war in Ukraine and the resulting energy crisis – and is working at breakneck speed to build its own infrastructure. Important energy routes, such as Germany’s northern gas pipeline to bring LNG from a North Sea terminal into the country’s interior, are considered critical infrastructure. As such, sabotage of such facilities falls within the remit of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Greece: Responsibility Claim for the Attack on the Offices of the Israeli Shipping Company ZIM

“And now their are masses of people who are rising and breaking their shackles and chains. Eternal memory to you, oh brother, in the honorable struggle you have fallen.”

Armed with these verses, which come from our own 1940-49 era here in Greece and guided by the unity of the revolutionary achievements that are currently taking place in Palestine, we carried out an arson attack on the offices of the Israeli shipping company ZIM at dawn on Wednesday 17/01.

The Israeli company ZIM, since its establishment in 1945, has been actively involved in supplying the murderous Israeli army with military equipment for the Palestinian front. A process which continues even today, unhindered and frequently from the port of Piraeus. ZIM is one of the heavyweights of Zionist capital as it ranks among the ten most powerful shipping companies in Israel. Also, its targeting by the revolutionary Houthi guerrilla movement of the Yemeni people has exposed its active role in the genocide of the Gaza Strip.

A little over a hundred days. Days that are obscured by the sounds of artillery and buildings being demolished in an instant. Nights haunted by the explosions of aerial bombardment. Periods of time where minute by minute, street by street, house by house another magnificent chapter of the Palestinian resistance is written. Another magnificent chapter in the history of the Peoples’ Resistance against their occupiers, against their timeless oppressors.

On October 7, 2023, the combined action of the armed resistance organizations of the struggling Palestinian people achieved an unthinkable blow against one of the most powerful militaries in the world, the Israeli occupation forces. An occupation that has already counted seventy-five years of violence, persecution, arrests and imprisonment without trials, torture, executions, killings, murders of civilians and the continuous expansion of Israel into Palestinian territory in violation of all treaties. Aggressive expansion, with constant escalations, which has led millions of Palestinians to be uprooted or to live crammed into strips and patches of land under inhumane, suffocating conditions of military enforcement, surveillance, control, deprivation of basic human rights, basic goods and health care, on a thin line between life and death.

In this suffocating context, the Palestinian people manage to organize themselves, overcoming immense difficulties and attacking the occupier who tries to break their resistance. The Palestinian Resistance organizations continue operations and achieve daily blows against the Zionist occupation forces. Even at this very moment, when the Israeli army has penetrated deep into the Gaza Strip, as it is attacking the West Bank and striking mercilessly and indiscriminately, slaughtering tens of thousands of Palestinians. For all its overwhelming show of force, the Zionist state of Israel is failing to achieve its key objectives, with international and domestic pressure to end the war and find a diplomatic solution mounting and political time running out for a viable way out for the far-right Netanyahu government.

In the context of these conditions, the Greek state, as an integral part of the imperialist mechanisms of NATO, as a proud distant outpost of the USA, declares its support for the Zionist aggressors and the massacre of the Palestinian people, diplomatically and also practically by facilitating the Israeli war machine through the provision of an uninterrupted supply of military equipment and also with military personnel as part of the NATO support forces off the coast of Palestine. This is also made possible through the great growth and profitability of Israeli capital with investments of tens of millions in the real estate sector, and the tourism and transport industries.

Stop the Attacks on the Zapatista Community “La Resistencia”!

February 7, 2024

Jobel, Chiapas.

To the National Indigenous Congress

To the national and international Sixth

To the Networks of Resistance and Rebellions

To those of us who subscribe to the Declaration for Life

To good-hearted people

A few days ago we learned, like many of you, of the attack carried out on our comrades Zapatista support bases of the GAL La Resistencia, belonging to the Moisés y Gandhi Autonomous Region, Caracol 10 [1], by the paramilitary group Organización Regional de Cafeticultores de Ocosingo (ORCAO). We know well that this is not the first time that this criminal organization attacks our comrades and that it is a strategy that comes from above, that it is part of the integral war of attrition to try to stop the autonomy and organization of our comrades. Accumulation by dispossession is based on violence and death. But we know, as you do, that in these times of greed and power, those who organize themselves by and from autonomy and the common go for something greater: life. While up there they fight for the crumbs of the product of false democracy, called elections, below the root of a life that will shelter generations, communities and peoples is fertilized and cared for; from the destruction left by those at the top, landscapes of life are rebuilt with dignity and courage.

In the face of these attacks we want to express our indignation and dignified rage. From our collective heart we firmly say that our Zapatista comrades are not alone, that if they touch one they touch us all. We call on la Sexta and all our solidarity comrades to join this indignation and the call for an immediate cessation of the attacks on our Zapatista comrades.

Stop the war against the Zapatista peoples!

Stop the comprehensive war of attrition!
